Why do I get multiple charges from Google every month instead of just one payment?

How Google Ads Automatic Payments Work (and What You Need to Know)

Updated over 7 months ago

If your Google Ads account uses automatic payments, Google will charge your card whenever your ad spend reaches a set threshold. This helps keep your campaigns running without interruption.

If your account doesn’t reach the threshold during a billing cycle (usually monthly), Google will charge the remaining balance at the end of that cycle.

Example:

Let’s say your payment threshold is $200, and your monthly ad spend is $500.

Here’s how that would break down:

  • After spending $200 → Google charges $200

  • After another $200 → Another $200 charge

  • Remaining $100 → Charged at the end of the billing cycle

Important Note About Billing and Account Health

If we created a new Google Ads account for you, we’ll set up notifications to alert you if there’s an issue with your payment method—such as an expired card or a failed charge.

While we actively monitor your campaigns to optimize performance, it’s crucial that you maintain a valid, active payment method. If a payment fails and isn’t resolved quickly:

  • Google can pause your campaigns

  • In more severe cases, they can suspend or ban your account entirely

We’ll reach out if we notice a billing issue—but it’s always a good idea to check your Google Ads account periodically to confirm your billing details are up to date.
